Marco Island - "Paradise Island"
Marco Island - A sun-drenched jewel on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, Marco Island features six miles of beach and over 100 miles of waterways within its 24 square miles. Marco Island is the largest Barrier Island within Southwest Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands area extending from Marco Island to Cape Sable.
It has been described as Magical, Mystical and Alluring. The attraction to Marco Island is its year round tropical sun-washed white beaches and a casual easy paced life style. Sunshine, frolicking dolphins, flocks of seagulls and all of the water and sun sports that go with the beaches are available for your pleasure. With a permanent population of 15,000 and a peak winter season population of 35,000, Marco Island’s residents and visitors alike call this special Island ... Paradise. It’s no wonder, with our dependable sunshine and winter afternoon temperatures usually in the 70's and 80's. The Gulf water temperatures range from the low 60's in the winter to the high 80's in the summer and fall.
You will find that Marco Island is its own self-sufficient entity. With 18-hole golf courses in and around the Island, as well as over 50 locally owned and operated restaurants. Golfing is available at as many courses as stars in the sky, all only a short drive away. A list of all nearby public golf courses is provided in the things to do tab. The restaurants will delight your taste buds with fresh seafood and wonderful island creations. Most of the island restaurants offer nightly entertainment. Famous Tin City and downtown Naples are a short drive away.
Explore the wilderness of the Ten Thousand Islands by land, boat or air. Enjoy superb fishing and abundant wildlife. Nestled in the mangrove islands of southwest Florida's coast, Marco Island is indeed a world-class resort destination surrounded by miles and miles of pristine, uninhabited islands, bays, creeks, and the Gulf of Mexico.
To the north you’ll find the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and its Briggs Memorial Nature Center. To the south you’ll find the sprawling 10,000 Islands with over 70 coastal miles of fly fishing heaven, inhabited only by the tiny fishing villages of Goodland, Everglades City, Chokoloskee and eventually Flamingo. Included in this southerly stretch are Collier-Seminole State Park, the 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, Big Cypress National Preserve and the 5000 square mile Everglades National Park, ensuring continued protection against coastal development.
